Favorite Things

Some movies stick with you, and this one I keep coming back to. A little part of me is surprised every time Paul starts to go downhill, as though maybe this time the whole movie will be different. An eternal optimist.

I first watched this movie when I was sixteen. I hated it. It was too slow, not enough dialogue, and despite the beautiful shots, all I could think was nothing is HAPPENING! But I re-watched it this weekend, and what a couple years can do! I still think it could do with a few scene cuts, but James Horner’s music is perfect, and all the nature shots are amazing.

We watch this movie every Christmas, and the similarities between Jo March and myself frighten me a bit more every year.

We have a lot of favorites in common. I also love Little House on the Prairie, A River Runs Through It, and the ocean. Always thought loving both farmlands and the ocean showed a bit of a split personality.
