WHO I AM

When I taught 7th grade English, I had my students write a Where I’m From poem. It was simple, a template they filled in, and I hung the poems along with their pictures behind my desk for the rest of the year.

As high schoolers, they still mention that project.

I am a bunch of nouns and adjectives.

writer, singer, teacher
daughter, sister, wife, friend
passionate, intense, excitable
seeking calm
seeking shalom
seeking “thy Kingdom come”

I am not many things, as well.

mathematical, measured, graceful
spatially gifted, good at visual art
apathetic

There are things I love more than I should.

And things that I long to do with my life.

I’m starting here.
